Target group

For those who have a desire to learn about different AI tools - how to use and apply them in their own work (e.g. IT workers, those in technical positions, teachers, consultants, designers, etc.), the training requires basic programming skills.

Objective

The aim of AI expert training is to develop the participants' practical knowledge of the use of artificial intelligence. In the training, you get to know many different artificial intelligence tools and practice using them with the help of examples and tasks. In addition, we dive deeper into the principles of the technology and methods behind artificial intelligence, e.g. neural networks, learning algorithms, data processing with Python and predictive methods. During the training, you will gain a deep understanding of the nature of artificial intelligence and its application to different areas, you will learn to integrate artificial intelligence to your applications, and you will receive up-to-date information on the latest developments in generative artificial intelligence tools.

In AI expert training, you will learn to understand more deeply what artificial intelligence is and how you can use it in your work.

You will learn how to use many different AI tools to increase work productivity and efficiency, you will get up-to-date information on the latest developments in generative AI tools, and you will acquire expertise in developing artificial intelligence-based solutions.

Courses

You will learn to use wide variety of different AI tools to increase productivity and learning, and stay up-to-date in the latest developments of generative AIs.

During the course you will learn:

- prompt engineering or how to write efficient prompts, which get the job done
- how to use image generation tools to create photorealistic images and amazing looking art
- how to utilize image-to-image generation
- how to use AI to create presentation materials and complete videos for you.
- how to use AI to compose, rewrite and analyze any sort of text
- how to use AI to generate ideas and act as an expert to help you
- how to use AI tools perform programming tasks (code generation, finding & fixing bugs, documentation,
testing, rewrite/refactor code) for you.

You will learn to know and effectively use many different artificial intelligence tools and you will get up-to-date information about the latest developments in generative artificial intelligence tools.

You will learn through practical examples and tasks. The tasks cover a wide range of topics, from producing text to teaching and creating materials, program code, images and videos. You can choose which tasks you do, as long as the required minimum amount is met.

The course contains minimal theory, about 99% is practice and 1% theory. The course does not include the study of mathematics.

During this course you will learn:

- how to use over 10 of different AI-related APIs to harness to power of existing AI services, to generate text, images, audio (speech & music) and more.
- how to handle all sorts of data from PDF to docx files to web pages, images, video, speech as input to large language models (LLMs)
- how to generate structured output (JSON) and PDF from LLMs
- retrieval-augmented-generation (RAG)
- how to create your own custom bots and virtual personas using system prompts
- how to create a modern web interface or powerful command line interface to your AI app
- how to use AI to speed up & automate tasks, such as text summarization, data scraping, image generation, audio translation & transcribing, generating product descriptions, marketing materials, data analysis
- how to install and use AI tools on your local computer.

The main objective is to learn to utilize existing AI-related APIs (Application Programming Interface).

Training your own AI models can be prohibitely expensive and time consuming. This course focuses on services and APIs that you can use quickly to make your own AI-powered apps or add AI as part of your tool chain or into existing apps. It will cover all the leading providers (OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic), but also image generators, audio (speech & music) generation.

There will be lots of examples and programming assignments. Some of them might require the student to pay for the use of AI APIs, but the costs are likely to be moderate (e.g. with about 10 euros you can by enough credits for short experimentation).

Programming will be done in Python. It would be good if you knew also the basics of GIT.

During the AI project course you will implement and document a project, which utilizes AI heavily. After completing the course, you will be able to identify a real-world problem and propose a solution for it using AI. You know to use tools and methods to design the solution. You implement the solution using a systematic approach. You evaluate the solution in different scenarios, considering possible problems and their mitigation. You present your solution to different stakeholders using appropriate language.

As a group you will implement and document a project, which utilizes AI heavily. The end result can be an entire book, video, game, web site, new mobile, desktop or web application, but it cannot be the result of a single prompt. The project could also be the use of existing AI APIs with robotics, IoT or automation. The project could also be an art installation or a tech prototype for a company.

The project is divided into several phases: forming the group and planning, prototype, beta and final version. The students will receive feedback from each phase.

You will familiarize yourself with Data processing with Python.

During this course data is analyzed systematically starting with the single variables, then proceeding
into two variable case and finally performing statistical tests for getting insight on possible dependencies between variables.

You will become familiar with many Python libraries that proof to be handy for many different kind of tasks, not just for data analysis.

The following topics will be covered:

• Programming structures characteristic of Python
• Visualizing data with Matplotlib
• Using the Pandas library for data processing
• Principles of visual analytics
• Reading and writing data
• Understanding data structures and their basic properties
• Selecting, indexing, grouping, and transforming data
• Working with missing data and duplicates
• Conducting fundamental exploratory analysis of data
• Performing statistical tests to evaluate dependency between variables
• Completing practice work to integrate the points above

This course introduces machine learning to make predictions based on data. You will get to know several supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms.

After completing this course you:

- have a good understanding of key machine learning concepts and methods
- are able to apply different machine learning methods to practical problems
- are able to create and deploy simple machine learning solutions

You will use the Python programming language and its different libraries.

Topics covered:

• Supervised learning, knn algorithm as an example
• Unsupervised learning, k-means algorithm as an example
• Linear regression and correlation
• Underfitting and Overfitting
• Decision Trees
• Support Vector Machines
• Dimensionality Reduction
• Basics of topic detection, regular expressions, Natural Language Processing (NLP)
• Sentiment analysis

The course is completed by doing a few practice projects in small groups. Before each practice project, many things related to data processing and Python libraries are covered in lectures and examples are provided.

The objective of the course is to provide you with deep understanding of neural networks together with hands-on experience. First the topics listed below are studied and then a practice project is done and submitted for evaluation.

• Gradient Descent algorithm
• Convolutional Neural Networks
• Model training using own data
• Transfer learning

The topics above are studied through lecture slides and literature but also an extensive code base in Python language is provided. These codes are then to be modified by the students for applying them the given dataset which is part of the practice work of the course.

Important to know

The education is organized as online studies, and the studies can be completed mostly independently of time and place. Some tasks in the education require a bit of teamwork.
In studies, there is optional Zoom guidance available if you need support or want to network with other students.
To complete your studies, you will need a computer on which you have the rights to install necessary software.
The training includes programming, so basic programming skills are necessary for participants. The programming language used is Python, which you will review at the beginning of the studies. If Python is not familiar to you as a programming language, you can still participate in the studies. We will explore many artificial intelligence-based tools that can be used to support programming.
Completing the training requires acquiring licenses for a few artificial intelligence applications. Their cost is about €20/month for the duration of the studies. You may be inspired to purchase more licenses after exploring different applications!
The language of instruction is English and the teaching material is in English, you can choose to submit your learning tasks in Finnish or English. Teachers will guide and answer your questions in both languages.
