The world of work in the future requires continuous skills development and the wellbeing of employees. We research and develop solutions that support individuals’ careers from early years to retirement. Our aim is to ensure the availability of a competent and wellbeing workforce in a changing labour market.
Our aim is to ensure that the people who work and will work in the future have the skills and wellbeing they need. Our mission is to create an understanding of the importance of personal wellbeing, to support the adoption of technological change, and to develop innovations that promote wellbeing at work. We work cross-sectorally, bringing benefits to individuals, work communities and society as a whole. We believe that combining learning and wellbeing leads to a sustainable world of work and better wellbeing for individuals.
We work in national and international networks with universities, businesses and the public sector. The beneficiaries are employees, organisations, educational institutions and policy makers who need solutions to build sustainable world of work.
We use a wide range of research and development methods, including:
- Qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Digital and AI-based learning and wellbeing solutions.
- Interventions that are pedagogical, guidance-focused and supporting of wellbeing
- Technological innovations for promoting occupational safety (e.g. exoskeletons, smart wearables)
- Assessment and development methods for multidisciplinary collaboration
Through these, we support the development of skills and wellbeing throughout the career by providing personalised learning solutions, developing interventions to promote well-being at work and enhancing safety through technological innovation. Multi-method research and multidisciplinary collaboration enable the continuous development and application of solutions to different work environments, supporting lifelong learning and professional sustainability.
The focus area consists of the following research groups:
- Sustainable wellbeing – Developing sustainable wellbeing solutions that support wellbeing at work and lifelong inclusion in eco-social communities.
- LearnWell – Learning, teaching and wellbeing – Explores and develops the links between learning, teaching and wellbeing in higher education and world of work.
- Safety at work as part of longer careers – Focuses on innovations and ergonomic solutions for wellbeing and safety at work.
- Lifelong guidance – Promotes methods to support wellbeing and career planning throughout the education and career path.
Our projects

Ageing Autism
We develop and pilot a training model that prepares professionals to support ageing autistic individuals according to their unique needs. The focus is on improving quality of life by providing targeted support and creating a new professional specialisation for those working with ageing autistic individuals.

Promoting students’ employment and settling down in Kanta-Häme
We want to develop career guidance, employment and the coordination of services that support studies, service paths, and networking between educational institutions and companies based on business needs.
