The idea behind our cooperation is to tackle the problem of loneliness in working life together with young people, workplaces and educational institutions. The aim is simple: to reduce loneliness and exclusion in working communities.
We bring with us strong knowledge and expertise in learning and career guidance, multidisciplinary collaboration and life course and transition research. We are planning a range of workshops for young people. We will bring our solid expertise in pedagogy, counselling and psychotherapy to these workshops. The work is coordinated by HelsinkiMission.
Reducing loneliness is in the interest of every workplace. It leads to higher productivity, greater employee satisfaction and stronger commitment to work. Young adults experience more loneliness in the workplace than older workers and more young workers are becoming exhausted. The effects of loneliness are reflected in employee well-being, work culture, job performance and ultimately company performance. It is in the interest of both the employee and the company to work together to reduce loneliness at work.
Target group
The target group includes not only young workers but the whole work community. In this case, those employees who do not experience loneliness are key to changing the work culture.
Operating area
The goals of our cooperation extend to the whole of Finland.
We have lonely people working for us. And so do you. Join us to reduce loneliness.
Trainings, development workshops and a toolkit are on the way
We work on co-development with young people who have just entered or are entering the world of work. We also offer professional help for loneliness in working life, provided by HelsinkiMission.
At the end of 2025, we will launch a caring workplace tool on the website Mielenterveystalo.fi, which will be freely available to all workplaces and educational institutions. Our goal is that all the solutions developed in Work to Belong – a caring work community for young people – can be adopted by all work communities across Finland.
The HelsinkiMission Work to Belong programme has been developed since 2021 and is reportedly the first in the world to reduce loneliness in workplaces.
