AgrCBE helps improve the skills of education governance authorities in Kenya and Uganda. The project focuses on making higher education more practical, inclusive, and useful for society and the environment.
The project was created to address the challenges faced by national authorities in managing and guiding competency-based education (CBE) effectively. Partner universities in Uganda and Kenya, along with all universities under the Ministries of Education and National Councils for Higher Education (NCHEs), are working to transition to CBE and prepare for their first groups of students educated under this approach.
The goal is to modernize higher education institutions (HEIs) to meet societal needs. Universities rely heavily on the regulatory and advisory role of NCHEs to achieve this mission. AgrCBE will also contribute to sustainable growth and job creation in Kenya, Uganda, and the broader East African Community (EAC).
By adopting innovative, competency-based curricula, student-centered teaching methods, and strong partnerships with industries, graduates will gain problem-solving skills and the ability to create solutions. This approach will help universities act as drivers of economic and social progress.
The overall aim is to strengthen the capacity of education authorities in partner countries to support higher education that is competency-based, relevant to the job market, inclusive, and focused on societal and environmental development.
