FundersEuropean Regional Developmet Fund, Regional Council of Häme, City of Riihimäki, City of Hämeenlinna, City of Forssa
Budgetapprox. 350 000 €

The goal of the DataMill project is to enhance the efficiency and quality of urban data collected from diverse sources. The project’s focus is to develop a technical platform that enables the integration of both current and historical data from urban structures and businesses, in conjunction with AI-assisted processing, in order to satisfy the requirements of diverse user groups.

Improved access to and utilisation of data presents new avenues for knowledge-intensive SME activities, services, research, education and the development and decision-making processes of city organisations. The data from businesses and all Finnish cities, including the DataMill partners Riihimäki, Hämeenlinna and Forssa, can be utilised for monitoring conditions, planning, foresight and decision-making. The data is also vital for developing services, infrastructure and the attractiveness of the business environment. A unified data management system can create a regional service platform and snapshot, link national data streams into a regional data space and improve the efficiency of business and municipal departments. This will enable the delivery of enhanced services and increase the attractiveness of cities, anticipating future developments.

Target group

The primary target of the project is businesses that utilise urban data, provide services to cities and disseminate data to other data-using companies and public sector entities. Additionally, cities that generate and utilise data for the development of their activities and services are an important partner for the project.

Operating area

The project is currently operational in the Kanta-Häme region and in the cities of Riihimäki, Hämeenlinna and Forssa.

Actions

The project will conduct business and user-driven pilots, develop dashboard interfaces and collect data to support the experimentation and deployment of new ways of working in the public and private sectors. The pilots will leverage cutting-edge ICT and AI technologies and robust communication networks to develop a new generation of data-driven services for businesses, citizens, and city departments. Furthermore, the initial trials of artificial intelligence and the City of Riihimäki’s digital twin will be conducted utilising data from the urban infrastructure.

These pilots will ascertain new avenues for development and exploitation, while also identifying potential challenges. The outcomes will inform the expansion of solutions that have demonstrated success in Riihimäki to Hämeenlinna, Forssa and other potential locations.
