Hämeenlinna University Centre

Our evolving, growing and modern main campus, Hämeenlinna University Centre brings together 5000 students and around 500 employees.

Our extensive campus area offers a wide range of facilities and services for studying and researching in different fields.

The Hämeenlinna University Centre offers around 30 degree programmes and is also the home campus of all HAMK’s research units. In addition, the campus is a great place to organize a variety of events for both internal and external actors, so the campus is often a hive of activity.

Innopark, a business cluster located right next to the HAMK campus, also enables us to carry out various business collaboration projects.

The Hämeenlinna University Centre is located in the Visamäki district, close to highways 3 and 10, a few kilometres from the city centre. We are easy to reach by car, public transport or even by bike. The campus and its surroundings offer a variety of services, including a grocery store, restaurants, a sports hall and student housing.

Hämeenlinna is a beautiful lakeside city located in southern Finland, approximately one-hour drive from either Helsinki, Tampere or Lahti. The closest airports are Helsinki-Vantaa and Tampere-Pirkkala airport.

The Hämeenlinna University Centre is located in the Visamäki district, near highways 3 and 10, a few kilometres from the city centre and We are easy to reach by car, public transport or by bike.

Public transport in Hämeenlinna

From Hämeenlinna railway station, bus station and city centre there is a direct local bus connection (bus line 2) to the university centre. Line 13 also runs next to the campus.

The nearest local bus stops to the campus are Korkeakoulukeskus P and Vankanlähde E.

By car

The closest parking area to the main entrance of the University School Centre is at the end of Vankanlähde (Vankanlähde 9). The parking areas are marked on the campus map. Parking in the visitor parking areas is free of charge.

From Helsinki Vantaa Airport

Bus connection from Helsinki Vantaa Airport to Hämeenlinna

The bus connection from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport to Hämeenlinna is the easiest way to get to Hämeenlinna. Express buses to Hämeenlinna depart right outside terminals 1 and 2. The ticket can be purchased from the bus driver. Please note that you may have to change buses in Keimolanportti Service Station, about 10 minutes’ drive from the airport. Trains from Helsinki Vantaa Airport to Hämeenlinna

There is a train connection from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Hämeenlinna, with a change in Tikkurila train station. The train station entrance is located at the airport, between terminals 1 and 2. The journey takes about 1.5 hours. Please check the timetables from the web site of Finnish Railways VR. Train tickets are not sold on the trains, so you need to buy train tickets beforehand, otherwise you can get a €80 fine.

From Helsinki

A bus ride from Helsinki bus station to Hämeenlinna city centre takes about an hour and 20 minutes. You can find the timetables and buy the tickets in advance at Matkahuolto.

Trains from Helsinki to Hämeenlinna take around 65 to 90 minutes. You can find the train timetables from Finnish Railways VR. Train tickets are not sold on the trains, so you need to buy train tickets beforehand, otherwise you can get a €80 fine.

A car ride is approximately 100 kilometres via the motorway 3 (E12), and it takes about an hour and 15 minutes depending on the weather conditions.

From Tampere

A bus ride from Tampere city center to Hämeenlinna takes about an hour. You can find the timetables and buy the tickets in advance at Matkahuolto.

If you are flying to Tampere-Pirkkala airport, you can take a 30 minutes bus ride from the airport to Tampere city centre.

Trains from Tampere to Hämeenlinna take about 50 minutes. You can find the train timetables from Finnish Railways VR. Train tickets are not sold on the trains, so you need to buy train tickets beforehand, otherwise you can get a €80 fine.

If you’re traveling with both bus and train, please notice that the train station in Tampere is located about 10 to 15 minute walk from the Tampere bus station.

A car ride is approximately 80 kilometres via the motorway 3 (E12), and it takes about an hour depending on the weather conditions.

Our campus doors are generally open on weekdays between 8am and 4pm.

HAMK students can get a key card, which can be used to move around the campus even when the doors are locked.

Services

The campus restaurant Helmi in Hämeenlinna University Centre offers a varied lunch menu for students, staff and visitors on weekdays. There is also a cafe serving snacks and .

There are also two other restaurants on campus area.

You can also get snacks, takeaway lunch and other refreshments at the K-market Visamäki next to the campus.

On campus, you can find the EXAM Exam Aquarium in room D-150, (D-building, 1st floor, next to the canteen). The exam room is also open to students from other universities during campus opening hours.

The nearest entrances to the EXAM studio are the main entrance of building N and the entrance to building D from the Visakaarre side. The exam room is on the same floor when entering from building D. There is a lift from the N building.

All enrolled students pursuing a degree who are registered for attendance receive primary health care services through the FSHS.

The Hämeenlinna Region Student Housing Foundation (HOPS) rents apartments in Visakylä and Kampuskaarre, near the university centre, and in Hattelmala

With farm landscapes, tomato production and 20 hectares of parkland, our Lepaa campus gives you a taste of horticulture up close. The campus has a long tradition of training horticultural professionals for over 100 years, since 1910.

Riihimäki

Diverse engineering skills, robotics and transport, you’ll find it all at the Riihimäki campus. The campus offers both Finnish- and English-language engineering courses, graduating future all-rounders. In addition to teaching, the campus also does a lot of research work.
