HAMK succesful in international funding call

Häme University of Applied Sciences has received five new Erasmus+ funding for education and skills development in Africa and Asia. Among Finnish universities, HAMK performed the best in the funding application.

The decisions for the 2024 Erasmus+ funding calls have been published. Funding was available for two programs: development projects for higher education institutions and capacity building projects for vocational education.

Erasmus+ program projects are international cooperation projects aimed at developing innovative teaching content and methods, as well as training staff and students to respond to the various challenges of a rapidly changing world. They are implemented in collaboration between European and other countries’ higher education institutions and vocational schools.

A total of 151 projects received funding for higher education development projects, involving nearly 120 countries. Of the funded projects, 15 include Finnish higher education institutions. A total of 72 vocational education projects were funded, with four Finnish actors involved.

The best performing Finnish universities in both programs were HAMK, which is involved in a total of five projects in Africa and Asia. Therefore, HAMK received funding for all of its applied projects, except for one where we are on the waiting list.

“At HAMK, we have strong practical expertise in developing teaching and education systems, as well as the learning environments that surround them. Educational cooperation with African and Asian partners also significantly strengthens our own international expertise,” says Teija Lehtonen, Head of International RDI Development.

HAMK is involved in the following projects:

The implementation of the new Erasmus+ Africa projects is managed by HAMK Bio research unit, and the Asia project is managed by HAMK Edu research unit. The total funding for the five projects is 3.4 million euros, of which HAMK’s share is approximately 0.9 million euros.
