As a student in the Master's Degree in Applied Machine Learning you will gain a solid theoretical background in machine learning that also reflects the state-of-the-art in the field. On top of this, you also have the opportunity to develop the necessary practical skills to work with data-driven machine learning solutions within the industry after graduation. We aim to give you the tools to thrive in this exciting and rapidly developing field.
Upon completion of this Master's Degree Programme you will become a competent practitioner well-versed in the development and productisation of machine learning models.
The studies in the Master's Degree in Applied Machine Learning are implemented as a combination of on-campus and online studies.
Objective
After graduation you will possess the capabilities required to work in machine learning projects in different roles, developing solutions to real-world use cases. On top of having the skills and knowledge needed for the application of current machine learning methods to different practical problems, you will also be competent to develop the underlying data infrastructure and deploy models to production environments in an optimised and safe manner.
Qualification provided by education
This qualification prepares you to work in the field of machine learning in different industry specific roles, such as Machine Learning Engineer, MLOps Engineer, or Data Scientist.
A master’s degree qualifies you for positions that require a higher education degree. The degree is a fully recognised university degree in Finland as well as abroad, and upon completion provides you with the eligibility to apply for a doctoral degree.
Structure of studies
Studies at Häme University of Applied Sciences are structured around modules (15 ECTS) of studies that focus on specific thematic areas important to the industry. Each module, in practice, contains several courses related to the theme of the module as a whole. Studies in the Master's Degree in Applied Machine Learning (90 ECTS) are organised into mandatory Profiling Competences (60 ECTS) and a Master's Thesis (30 ECTS). More details on the courses contained within this degree programme can be seen from the curriculum.
Module structure, Applied Machine Learning (90 ECTS):
1. Changing Operational Environment and Research-based Development (15 ECTS)
2. Foundations of Machine Learning (15 ECTS)
3. Productisation of Machine Learning Models (15 ECTS)
4. Advanced Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence (15 ECTS)
5. Master's thesis (30 ECTS)
Masters Degree in Applied Machine Learning is delivered as on-campus studies with a blend of online studies.
A Master’s thesis (30 credits) is a research-based development task on a topic suitable for the degree programme and is based on both theoretical and work-based knowledge. Your thesis aims at solving a question or challenge arising from the world of work, and it is based on research-based development activities. You can complete your thesis work in your work organisation, for example. You will implement the study independently as a work-based project for which you will receive guidance from experienced thesis supervisors. The thesis process includes planning, interim and final seminars, which are carried out online. For theses completed at HAMK, see the Theseus.fi publication archive.
