Our goal is to help you build the necessary skills that will prepare you for a future career in machine learning solution development. As a student in the Master's Degree in Applied Machine Learning you will gain a solid theoretical background in machine learning that also reflects the state-of-the-art in the field. On top of this, you also have the opportunity to develop the necessary practical skills to work with data-driven machine learning solutions within the industry after graduation. Upon completion of this Master's Degree Programme you will become a competent practitioner well-versed in the development and productisation of machine learning models.

The studies in the Master's Degree in Applied Machine Learning are implemented as a combination of on-campus and online studies.

Objective

After graduation you will possess the capabilities required to work in machine learning projects in different roles, developing solutions to real-world use cases. On top of having the skills and knowledge needed for the application of current machine learning methods to different practical problems, you will also be competent to develop the underlying data infrastructure and deploy models to production environments in an optimised and safe manner.

Qualification provided by education

This qualification prepares you to work in the field of machine learning in different industry specific roles, such as Machine Learning Engineer, MLOps Engineer, or Data Scientist.

A master’s degree qualifies you for positions that require a higher education degree. The degree is a fully recognised university degree in Finland as well as abroad, and upon completion provides you with the eligibility to apply for a doctoral degree.

Structure of studies

Studies at Häme University of Applied Sciences are structured around modules (15 ECTS) of studies that focus on specific thematic areas important to the industry. Each module, in practice, contains several courses related to the theme of the module as a whole. Studies in the Master's Degree in Applied Machine Learning (90 ECTS) are organised into mandatory Profiling Competences (60 ECTS) and a Master's Thesis (30 ECTS). Masters Degree in Applied Machine Learning is delivered as on-campus studies with a blend of online studies.

A Master’s thesis (30 credits) is a research-based development task on a topic suitable for the degree programme and is based on both theoretical and work-based knowledge. Your thesis aims at solving a question or challenge arising from the world of work, and it is based on research-based development activities. You can complete your thesis work in your work organisation, for example. You will implement the study independently as a work-based project for which you will receive guidance from experienced thesis supervisors. Study Methods

Multiform Learning

Masters Degree in Applied Machine Learning is delivered as on-campus studies with a blend of online studies.

Your studies will begin on August 11, 2025 in Hämeenlinna University Centre. The first intensive week (3 days) will take place in Hämeenlinna University Centre in September 2025.

Studies tailored to you

Your degree consists of 90 credits and includes two core elements:

Part of your degree consists of profiling competence modules, enabling you to build expertise in your chosen direction according to your own goals. These studies offer opportunities to broaden, deepen, and enhance professional skills and personal development.

Profling competence includes following modules:

Application period (Joint Application) begins on January 8, 2025 and ends on January 22, 2025 at 3.00 pm (Finnish time).

The second application period (Direct Application) is February 1-March 31, 2025.

You can fill in the application form during the application period on the Studyinfo website.

Unfortunately, college level degree or vocational higher education degree does not give you the eligibility for apply to master’s degree programme at HAMK.

You are eligible f​​or Master’s Degree studies when you have completed relevant qualification and obtained two years of work experience from the relevant field. Relevant qualification for the programme is

  • Tietojenkäsittelyn tradenomi AMK / BBA in Business Information Technology UAS or Foreign Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree that is comparable to the above mentioned qualifications

Frequently asked questions: studying

One credit (1 ECTS) means about 27 hours of work by the student. You should reserve time for studying every week. It is important to consider in advance do you have time to study. For example, changing job, another place of study or family addition may cause challenges for studies.

With master’s degree you can deepen and broaden your competence. A master’s degree qualifies you for positions that require a higher education degree.

You don’t have to be employed to be able to study. But being at work can support master’s studies because with the studies you can develop your own competences or the processes of your own work organization. Master’s degree studies can give you an opportunity to move towards new careers.

Studying alongside work is possible. It requires you to plan your own time use because it is necessary to set aside time for studies every week. Please check out more detailed information about the programme schedule from the website (Timing of the studies).

No, you can’t complete you studies completely online. Studies are implemented as multiform concept (on-campus and online studies).

You can’t get credit transfers based on your bachelor level studies (university or university of applied sciences). Please discuss with your guidance counsellor about the previously completed studies before applying for the credit transfer.

If you are not a Finnish citizen and have come to Finland for study purposes, the general rule is that you cannot get financial aid from Finland.
