Data boosts sustainable development in the circular economy

Häme University of Applied Sciences’ KAP – Digital autonomous services in circular economy project has taken a new direction in the development of services in the circular economy area located in the MORE industrial zone, which is why a change application was made to the project. Together with our partners, we have identified the need for a regional control room where we can combine data from different sources to develop the whole area to be more responsible, sustainable and efficient.

In the KAP project, we will extend the monitoring system planned for the area to cover a more comprehensive collection of data on the area’s activities. This resulting pilot monitoring project will focus on monitoring not only transport but also energy and environmental management, allowing for a more holistic approach to the development of the region’s activities than the original project plan.

Through a broader monitoring system, we will support sustainable development and help lay the groundwork for environmental certification of the MORE region, with the aim of improving accountability and reporting both for the region and for the companies operating in the region. At the same time, the system will gather important information that will help to optimize the region’s operations and reduce its environmental impact. The new system can be easily scaled up to other operators, allowing circular economy solutions to be expanded more effectively.

The project takes into account the objectives of the Häme Circular Economy Roadmap and the Carbon Neutral Hämeenlinna programme. The KAP project, co-funded by the European Union, is now running until July 2026 and is expected to bring significant improvements to the region’s circular economy activities and environmental impact.
