Application on the basis of uncompleted degree in higher education

Have you ever started your higher education studies in Finland but for one reason or another had to put them on hold? Did you know that you can continue your studies without having to reapply through the joint application process?

You can apply to HAMK at any time during the semester to continue your interrupted studies.

If you want to complete your unfinished higher education degree from a Finnish university of applied sciences, you can apply to HAMK for studies from August 1st to May 31st. You may be accepted into the same or equivalent program in which you were previously enrolled.

Right to study

You will receive a study right once you are accepted as a student, have accepted the study place, and have registered for the semester. The right to study period begins from that point. Please apply during the semester when you want to start the studies as a degree student.

If you are a former student of HAMK and you started your studies on August 1st, 2015, or later, you will not receive a new study right; instead, your original study right will be extended. We charge a processing fee of 50 euros for handling the application (A1440/2014, §3). However, apply to continue your studies using this application method. You can request the necessary official documents (transcript of records and certificate of completion) by email from [email protected].

Eligibility

We may accept you as a student if you have an unfinished university degree from a Finnish university of applied sciences. You must meet HAMK’s general eligibility requirements, and you may have a maximum of:

  • 60 ECTS credits to be completed for Bachelor’s Degree or
  • 30 ECTS credits to be completed for Master’s Degree.

If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for this application, please explore other alternatives we offer: How to Apply for Studies

Student selection criteria

The admission is based on the suitability of your studies for HAMK’s degree education, academic performance, timing, and quantity of completed credits, as well as the current student situation (group size).

The suitability of completed studies for the degree program will be assessed. It is advantageous for the applicant if their previous studies can be fully credited towards the degree. Additionally, having fewer than 60 ECTS credits (for a Bachelor’s degree) or 30 ECTS credits (for a Master’s degree) of missing studies is considered advantageous.

Language skills requirements

If you have completed your previous university studies in a language other than the language of instruction for the program you are applying to, we may test your language proficiency if necessary.

Instead of a language test, proficiency in Finnish may also be demonstrated by achieving at least level 4 in the National Certificate of Language Proficiency in speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Similarly, achieving at least a good level in the oral and written parts of the State Administration’s language proficiency test may be accepted as equivalent proof of proficiency in Finnish.

HAMK does not arrange a language test for an applicant whose mother tongue and language of schooling are Swedish, and who has received a minimum grade of eight (8) in Finnish as a second language on their high school diploma.
