Study right
An applicant will receive student status upon acceptance of the offered place, as well as registration for the semester. The period of study right is counted from the beginning of that semester. Therefore, an applicant should apply for student status in the semester they intend to start their studies as a degree student.
Eligibility
Bachelor’s Degrees
Applicants for studies leading to a Bachelor’s degree can be admitted through a separate application if they have completed 60 credits. For more detailed information about studies completed in the Open UAS, refer to the Student Selection in below.
Master’s Degrees
Applicants for studies leading to a Master’s degree can be admitted through a separate application if they have the required educational background.
- an applicable higher education degree and
- two years of post-graduate field-specific work experience and
- 10 cr (in 60 cr program) / 15 cr (in 90 cr program) of relevant Master’s level studies in an open university of applied sciences. Incomplete Master’s degree studies cannot be applied for in a separate application.
Two years of work experience must be acquired after completing the relevant degree. If the applicant has a higher education degree or a vocational or professional higher education degree completed before the eligibility-producing degree, work experience can be accepted from the completion of this degree. The degree can be from any field of study. In this case as well, a minimum of 24 months (two years) of work experience in the relevant field is required. The relevant field is considered both the field the applicant is currently applying for and the field from which the higher education degree is obtained. If the applicant has completed a degree abroad equivalent to a Finnish vocational or professional higher education degree, the applicant must provide an official/institutional clarification of the degree’s level (ISCED 5A or 5B).
Work experience is reported in full months. Work is considered full-time when there are 35 hours per week. Part-time work is converted to full-time so that 150 hours or 20 days of at least 7 hours each correspond to one month.
Work experience does not have to be continuous or acquired with the same employer. Concurrent employment can accumulate work experience only equivalent to the amount of full-time work.
Entrepreneurship is accepted as work experience if there is evidence that the applicant is or has been insured under YEL or MYEL.
Work experience obtained abroad can be demonstrated with a CV showing the start and end dates of the employment. Additionally, a letter of recommendation from the employer or another person is required.
