The SuHAMK CoARAb project strengthens HAMK’s researcher evaluation process by promoting and considering qualitative evaluation criteria and making the evaluation process itself public and transparent.
This 1-year EU funded project aims to develop effective qualitative researcher evaluation criteria through strong collaboration with researchers, researcher supervisors, the researcher evaluation team and other relevant HAMK personnel. A new sustainable evaluation framework will be created, allowing us at HAMK to recognize diverse researcher skills, support different researcher career paths, enhance research quality and promote transparency and accountability in the researcher evaluation process.
This new sustainable evaluation framework will be created by mapping the new qualitative evaluation criteria into HAMK’s organizational processes, making the evaluation process itself, and its criteria, public and accessible, and by providing comprehensive training on the use of the new criteria to relevant HAMK personnel.
This project will help us to:
- Recognize the importance of diverse researcher skills and outputs at HAMK, helping us to support our researchers’ capacities in conducting intensive and international research projects.
- Improve research quality at HAMK by emphasizing on quality over quantity,
- Promote an organizational culture of trust and accountability at HAMK, by making the researcher evaluation process public and transparent,
- Ans increase HAMK’s attractiveness as a place of work for researchers.
Target group
- HAMK researchers (at different career stages),
- HAMK’s researcher evaluators,
- HAMK’s researcher supervisors,
- All other relevant HAMK personnel.

Information about our development phases!
There are various opportunities for participation in the different development stages of the project. Thorough consideration for the different perspectives and wishes of stakeholders throughout the project ensures the functionality of the new qualitative evaluation criteria.
Survey: The survey is sent to HAMK researchers, researcher supervisors and members of the researcher evaluation team. The survey gathers information on the considered importance and effectiveness of different assessment criteria and skills from the perspective of these stakeholders.
Interviews: Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with HAMK researchers, researcher supervisors and members of the researcher evaluation team. The interviews will gather more in-depth insight in to the important evaluation criteria and researcher skills which have been identified in the surveys mentioned above.
Workshop: A draft of the new qualitative evaluation criteria will be drafted based upon the data received from the surveys and interviews. This draft will thereafter be presented a feedback and co-creation themed workshop to researchers, researcher supervisors, members of the researcher evaluation team and other relevant HAMK personnel. The workshop provides the opportunity for relevant stakeholders to comment and further develop the qualitative evaluation criteria.
Internal meetings with HAMK’s relevant personnel will be organized, where the new evaluation criteria will be reviewed and adapted to HAMK’s existing processes. After this, guidelines for the the integration and implementation of the new qualitative assessment criteria will be developed.
The new evaluation criteria will be published on both HAMK’s internal and external platforms.
These platforms will provide further opportunities for stakeholders to provide comments and feedback on the new evaluation criteria.
HAMK’s relevant personnel will also continue to be informed on the creation and content of the new evaluation criteria.
A comprehensive training program and related materials will be created and included in the introductory materials for new researchers.
A minimum of 2 internal workshops will be organized for relevant HAMK personnel, where they will receive training on the practical use of the new evaluation criteria.
The new evaluation criteria will also be presented at HAMK’s Personnel Days 2025.
The new evaluation criteria will first be piloted in selected recruitment processes.
Feedback from this pilot is collected and, if necessary, the evaluation criteria will be developed further.
After this, HAMK will fully implement the new evaluation criteria at organizational level!
