In the Ageing Autism project, we develop and pilot a training model that prepares professionals to support ageing autistic individuals according to their unique needs. The project focuses on improving quality of life by providing targeted support and creating a new professional specialisation for those working with ageing autistic individuals.
HAMK’s Expertise
HAMK brings strong expertise in special education and vocational teacher training to the project. HAMK’s experience with inclusive and supportive learning environments and special education teacher training is a valuable asset. Additionally, Senior Lecturer in Special Education, Simo Uusinoka, contributes his extensive experience working with autistic individuals, which supports the achievement of the project’s goals.
Target group
The project’s target group includes professionals working with autistic individuals, such as social and healthcare workers, special education teachers, and other specialists focusing on autism and ageing. Additionally, the project aims to reach educational institutions that can use the developed training model to prepare new professionals for supporting ageing autistic individuals.
Operating area
The Ageing Autism project operates internationally across three countries: Portugal, Spain, and Finland. The project fosters collaboration between these countries, enabling the sharing and development of expertise and practices related to the ageing process of autistic individuals.
