We promote sustainable development competencies in Kenya’s vocational education by focusing on curriculum updates and teacher training. Specifically, we aim to ensure that all young people, regardless of gender or background, have equal opportunities to develop green economy skills and participate in labor markets based on sustainable development.
Our goal is to equip vocational students with the knowledge and skills needed to support sustainable development and to help them address environmental challenges within their respective fields. In this project, sustainability is viewed from economic, social, and ecological perspectives. Sustainable development is integrated into curricula, and through teacher training, we aim to ensure that Kenyan youth, regardless of gender, have the opportunity to develop the sustainable development competencies needed in working life. The project also seeks to support Kenya’s green transition, promote the creation of green jobs, and foster a just transition.
We bring strong expertise in sustainable development education and curriculum development to the project. Our experts provide teacher training that integrates economic, social, and ecological aspects of sustainability into vocational education. Additionally, we bring our experience in managing international educational projects, supporting the achievement of the project goals.
Target group
The primary target group of the project consists of teachers from three vocational training institutes (TTI) selected by GIZ: Kasarani Technical and Vocational College, Thika Technical Training Institute and Masai National Polytechnic.
Target group is also representatives from CDACC (The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council). The project also has an indirect impact on GIZ’s activities.
Project area
The project area of the “Kenyan TVET Goes Green” initiative is Kenya, specifically three vocational training institutes (TTI) selected by GIZ, along with Finnish collaboration where HAMK and JAMK support the project’s implementation on an international level.
