CIBUS aims to reduce food loss and waste by increasing regions’ capacity to develop innovative regional policies. Local and regional authorities have an important role in creating a policy environment that stimulate prevention and reduction of food loss and waste, provide economic incentives, and encourage to innovations.
Europe must reduce food loss and waste across production and supply chains. While much work has addressed citizen behavioral change, policy can also contribute. The EU Platform on Food Losses and Waste acknowledges the role of local and regional authorities in regulating food systems, but also in encouraging and implementing innovation. Local and regional authorities can create policy environments to stimulate prevention and reduction of food loss and waste, provide economic incentives and encourage the uptake of innovative, cross-sector technologies.
CIBUS project will include partners from eight EU countries. They will undertake regional and interregional learning activities to update selected policies, seeking to implement recommendations of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste.
In Finland, the work will focus on updating the regional development programme Green Growth Region Kanta-Häme 2022–2025.
